A New Day Begins

She closed her eyes with eager anticipation of the day that was to follow and awoke with such excitement that was both young & childish but mature all the same.  Today was her first day at school .. the youngest of my offspring, my sweet little princess was venturing into the wide open world of school for the very first time.  We eagerly dressed together and neatly prepared her hair while talking about the day that lay ahead.

Oh my, internet, she is so precious.  How can it be that simply putting on a school uniform can suddenly make her look so different, so grown up, like looking at another’s child and not my own.

We arrived at school and located her locker and set about unpacking & organising her space.  The corridor was jam packed full with children, parents, siblings, cheers, tears & all array of emotions & noise.  Quickly that eager anticipation I had been privvy to at home was suddenly waning under the weight of all the buzz of activity and there began the familiar clutching of security as she grabbed my legs and hugged me tight.   As the classroom door opened and the teacher welcomed her new brood, her eyes lit up once again and she ventured in with that same excitement I had seen before.

As she sat at her desk completing the activity the teacher had prepared, I GULPED and choked as I held tight the welling up in my eyes & heart and raised my camera to capture this momentous occasion.

Sarah First Day at School

Update:  Yes, dear Internet I did cry today .. In the comfort of my home & my sweet husband’s arms I wept!   There were no tears on her part and she had a wonderful day, so too did my beautiful ever-growing boys.

Thank you dear Lord that you hold all things in Your hands and faithfully & attentively watch over us with love.

    Hi Cindy,
The pics are just beautiful! I was all emotional reading what you wrote and then looking at the pictures…and she’s not even my baby!
Yesterday was the first time in quite a few years…15 in fact…that I haven’t been there on the first day of school. After seeing these photos I feel like I should of been there :(

There all absolutely gorgeous Cindy…you have done a wonderful job with your children :)
